In order to check your string, you need to follow some simple steps. The first think you want to be sure of is having clean hands. Wash them with soap and warm water and dry them with a clean towel so you do not introduce germs into your body.

Squat low to the ground with bent knees and insert your index finger into your vagina. You will need to reach your cervix, which is at the top of your vagina (closer to your uterus). Feel the cervix (which is like the tip of your nose) and feel for the IUD string.

Be careful not to pull on the string, but just make sure you cannot feel any of the hard plastic of the IUD. If you feel the plastic or you cannot find the string, call your physician.
